My Obssession With "Rare Pigments"
I've always loved nail polish. What girl (..or guy? :D) doesn't? I have fond memories of waiting by my mother side while she had acrylic or gel nails applied. In fact, to this day the smell of acrylic powder makes me happy. Yes, I'm a freak. But, I digress- glossy long nails fascinated me. I remember messily applying my mother's OPI Grand Canyon Sunset
and Chanel's Vamp.
The earliest I can recall buying my own nail polish was when I was in high school. I had extra spending money do to me being a loser and happily working at our cafeteria. I know I've bought many random drugstore nail polishes before this, but I don't remember specifically. Going off on a tangent again here, but I notably remember badly wanting Cover Girl's Crackles and never getting one. :( Anyways, this stuck in my mind because I bought OPI's Russian Navy when it was barely released.
It was a huge nail trend that year and I wore it constantly. Every time I went to Ulta I would look out for a new OPI collection. Apparently I became a snob and only paid attention to OPI, which is why one notable polish from China Glaze escaped my notice. More on that in a bit. Luckily because of my OPI snobbery I had the good sense to snatch up Lemonade Stand By Your Man (What? No pic? Must remedy soon.) and My Private Jet.
Then in late 2009 I stumbled across a website that had a picture of China Glaze's Emerald Sparkle.
Um, are u kidding me? I had been craving a deep green like this for a while and I was getting frustrated with OPI and all their reds and pinks. From there I discovered nail blogs and realized how much I had missed out from this vast world of amazing-ness. 2010 is known as the Year of the Nail Polish Binge to my wallet. I now own (I'm not sure. I don't want to know and no one can force me to count)..quite a few more than the little old sterilite box that used to have my whole collection can possibly handle now.
This a photo from when I stopped biting my nails and really made an effort to have beautiful nails in order to wear all these amazing new polishes I was discovering. Notice my shitty application, dry, cracked cuticles, and ragged, jagged nails that are happily unfiled because that was the longest I'd ever had them. As you can see by the pictures in the rest of this post, everything mentioned has greatly improved. My nails are way stronger due to nail treatments, moisturizing the cuticles constantly, and always making it a habit to have some kind of polish on rather than bare nails. I proudly show my love of rare pigments. :)

Love it - as soon as I leave my nails for even a day without polish, they are breaking or cracking or peeling so I, like you, are a nail polish junkie as in China Glaze or OPI. Love you colors you have shown, especially the top blue and green. Keep polishing and having fun!
